Sony announced today some exciting news for PS3 owners: Netflix streaming soon will come to that system.

Xbox 360 owners have had that feature for about a year now, and, judging by the number of my friends consistently using it, it’s one of the top features. I know I use it all the time (I caught up on five seasons of The Office in two weeks thanks to it). This is a big victory for Sony, and a good pairing considering the system’s status as a high-definition video player.

It appears, however, that the PS3’s streaming will work in a slightly different manner, at least initially. Users will need to run it from a Blu-ray disk, for which you can sign up to receive here. The page doesn’t say anything about the disk being sent to those who sign up, but the news release does. So I’d assume if you sign up there, a disk will be automatically mailed to you when it becomes available.

When will that be? No word on that. I would guess, however, that it should be fairly soon. Keep an eye out on this blog; I’ll update when more information is known.

Wow, that is a lot of Wii and DS games. And I bet 90 percent of them aren’t great… Anyway, for me, this week is all about Tekken 6. I’m dying to play it, and I wish my copy would show up! For others, there’s DJ Hero, which looks interesting. I’ve played a demo, and it seems like it might be kind of difficult. But I’m willing to give it a chance because I love the music. Then there’s Forza Motorsport 3 and Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, both guaranteed to be great games.PC users will get Borderlands, a game that I’ve been playing all week and have become borderline obsessed with.

Looks like it’ll be a busy week!

Interesting things happened in September, according the data from NPD Group. With a number of price drops on all systems in the past few months, here is how the system sales worked out:

Yes, you’re reading that correctly, the PlayStation 3 took second place, an 87 percent increase over its August numbers, which were in turn up more than 70 percent from July. The PS3 beat both the Wii and the Xbox 360 and very nearly caught the DS. If there ever was proof that price drops help sales, this is it.

Crazy is the word for it. Good for you, Sony.

As for software, Halo 3: ODST proves the Halo series still has the chops to make sales. Lots of music game in there, also.

I am really looking forward to Borderlands. I’m so glad they changed the art direction for the game. Previously, it looked like any other out-in-the-wasteland game, but the new style really makes it stand out. It’s been getting good buzz, so I hope it lives up to my expectations (unlike Brutal Legend; read all about that in Thursday’s The (402) 411).

PSP owners will get their shot to play GTA: Chinatown Wars. I really liked the game on the DS, and it’ll be interesting to see how they change the gameplay for no touch screens.

No question about the big games this week. It’s Rocktober 13th, which means it’s Brutal Legend and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves week! I haven’t played Brutal Legend yet, but I just finished Uncharted, and let me tell you, it was absolutely fantastic. Definitely my favorite game of the year so far, and possibly my favorite game in a long time. This is a reason to buy a PS3. Look for my review in Thursday’s The (402) 411. Also, Wii owners should be excited for A Boy and his Blob.
