I forgot to mention this earlier in the week, so now is a good time to do it. Xbox Live will be down pretty much all day tomorrow (Monday) for server maintenance to prepare for the upcoming dashboard update. This will not result in any visible changes to the service yet (rumors say the update is coming in November). Maintenance will start at 2 a.m. CDT and could last 24 hours.
Also down during the maintenance will be the My Xbxo section of Xbox.com, and the forums will be read-only.
