Central A&M will have its hands full with a strong Petersburg PORTA offense. But the Raiders found a way to get past one good team.

Should be a good game, but in the end I think that the Sangamo conference win be 2-0 this year against the mighty ovc.
November 2nd, 2009 at 3:02 pm
Shooter - Since you stated on last weeks ST T blog that Porta would beat A&M, can you give me some X and O reasons why Porta will win or is it just a conference loyalty thing?
November 2nd, 2009 at 3:10 pm
A&M is Ripe to have their best game of the season.
A&M 28 PORTA 14
Good luck Raiders. You have everything it takes, just apply it in every aspect of the game.
November 2nd, 2009 at 3:44 pm
Let’s go, A&M. Shut that Sangamo goober up.
-
The okaw teams are like brothers. We argue and fight but when one of us gets into it with someone else we have eachother’s backs. Let’s do this.
November 2nd, 2009 at 4:02 pm
CAM please hush shooter up so he can serve me my fries.
November 2nd, 2009 at 4:43 pm
Porta is going to be very tough game for the Raiders. They are very simular in the way they play. I look for a low scoring affair with 2 great defenses going at it. I think if CAM is going to win they will have to have zero turnovers and very little mistakes! Plus make Porta play into some mistakes. If CAM gets 2 takeaways they win this game. I see a 13-7 game in favor of CAM.
Go OVC and see u in the quarters Raiders!
November 2nd, 2009 at 6:16 pm
Time to CRANK RAIDERS!!!! All of your tallants have been seen in part game to game. You are at the point that all of your tallants combined game to game are necessary for survival.
You absoloutley have everything it takes to be champions.
This game is the only game to worry about right now, four quarters of football this game, total team work, and no mistakes spells WIN for A&M.
GO RAIDERS MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!!
Raiders win by one or two scores.
November 2nd, 2009 at 6:32 pm
who would like to see a raider trojan matchup..lol…go raiders!!!!
November 2nd, 2009 at 6:45 pm
blackout for all raider fans on sat. wear everything black, and can we get some information of porta,i dont know hardly any thing on this team
November 2nd, 2009 at 8:51 pm
Ok info on PORTA. They obviously play in the Sangamo Conference with Auburn and Williamsville. They finished first in the conference and were the conference reps. They finished the regular season 8-1 and their only loss was to Auburn in week 3, 14-7. It was 14-0 at half and by the looks of things it was a defensive game. I don’t know what they run but by the looks of the stats they are mainly a running team with 4 backs over 250 yards. Cody Mundy is their leading rusher with close to 1000 yards but they don’t have a passing game to speak of. They score 39 ppg and give up 13. I think that A&M being at home wins this game 35-21.
November 2nd, 2009 at 9:01 pm
Time for Black Out Blogg.
See you Saturday PORTA.
Go Raiders!!!!!!!!!!
November 2nd, 2009 at 9:21 pm
haven’t seen either team play, but from talking to people that have seen both play, they think porta takes this by a couple scores….28-14 or so. should be a pretty good one.
November 2nd, 2009 at 9:39 pm
work hard in practice Raiders, you can win this. Practice for saturday like its your last game and everything else will fall in place. No distractions. Good luck to all OVC Teams.
November 2nd, 2009 at 9:47 pm
Just curious Beast, where is YOUR team playing this week? > That’s what I thought!
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:00 pm
Funny how everyone on these blogs seems to have an occupation from one direction. And “beast” i’m just curious who you are talking to.
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:24 pm
lets go raiders, make it like a couple years ago when they all said porta would thrash st t. St t put em out in the first quarter. so bring the pain. put your fut in the a$$ of their running game and they wont know what to do. and your at home, so you wont have to worry as much about penalties
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:48 pm
mr. opporknockity: i currently am not able to participate in football games due to age requirements. i WON my last game.
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:15 am
Make it happen Raiders! your will and determination..WILL get it done!
Beast- i doubt you had any “people” see both these two teams play…which games?…just doesnt make sense…probably not even two people each seeing one game..besides I doubt you have two friends!bwaaaa! Go Okaw….
THE 5-1 Conference! no conference came close to that! and we got more for ya
November 3rd, 2009 at 3:40 am
look at the wivc, they did the same thing but their loss was to another in conference team.
November 3rd, 2009 at 7:57 am
OKAW#1 it’s a good thing this is a football game and not a spelling bee, you can barely spell WIN. A@M is BACK!, why do you doubt someone has two friends, just because you don’t doesn’t mean someone else cant. Porta by 9.
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:06 am
Curious,
Key board is touchy, so spelling bee didn’t come to mind, you obviously knew what I meant. So your right about that, but I think your wrong about the score.
A&M by 14
GO RAIDERS!!!!!!
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:16 am
Good luck CAM. Play like you’re capable of playing and you win this one! The rest of the Okaw is rooting you on!
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:28 am
Talent is not spelled tallant. I don’t care how “touchy” your keyboard is.
Go Bluejays.
November 3rd, 2009 at 10:52 am
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE IF YOU DON’T HAVE NICE THINGS TO SAY ABOUT BOTH PORTA AND CAM GET THE HELL OFF. THIS HAS GOT OUT OF HAND. YOU PEOPLE ARE STUPID FOR THE COMMENTS ABOUT HIGH SCHOOL PLAYERS AND COACHES. IT IS A GAME THEY ALL LOVE AND SO DO YOU. LET THE KIDS PLAY THE GAMES ON THE FIELD AND NOT IN SOME DAMN CHAT ROOM. MY DAD WOULD ROLL OVER IN HIS GRAVE IF SAW WHAT WENT ON. HE LOVED THE HIGH SCHOOL GAME AND THE COACHES. HE ALSO HAD RESPECT FOR THOSE TEAMS AND COACHES. BOTH THESE TEAMS HAVE GREAT PLAYERS AND GREAT FANS. CHEER THEM ON AND LET THEM PLAY. THE PROBLEM YOU HAVE IS YOU WRITE SOMETHING AND SIGN SOME CODE NAME. I’M NOBODY BUT A FAN OF THE GAME AND ITS PLAYERS AND COACHES.
November 3rd, 2009 at 11:50 am
Beast must be ashamed of his school, because he is not saying who he is roting for. And just because you won your last game doesnt mean crap. People win their last game all the time and never even make the playoffs! LOL@Beast! what a dork!
November 3rd, 2009 at 11:50 am
forgot there is a spelling bee going on. I meant rooting!
November 3rd, 2009 at 1:41 pm
Round 2 will come down to the run game for sure. Johnson City ran 41 times for 195 yards last week, thats almost 5 yards a pop. I’m sure that some of the yardage came late when the starters were out, but if A&M can run for 200 yards they will win this game!
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:09 pm
Nobody,
You must have read a different blog and then posted on this one. This is nothing compared to some.
Curious,
Could you check this for spelling please
Raiders WIN!!!!
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:19 pm
Oh, and Nobody, I think your caps button may be stuck.
November 3rd, 2009 at 4:06 pm
Agreed Raider Nation. Obviously A&M’s running game has been their anchor and if it’s clicking then they pull out the win, but PORTA has some big boys so as we all know it starts at the line of scrimage. Both teams are run first teams, but A&M has an advantage with Townsend at Q he has proven he can pass hence the Tuscola game. Sat is supposed to be nice and sunny so it should be a good game.
November 3rd, 2009 at 4:19 pm
Tuscola has some big boys, Flora has some big boys, Unity, Monticello, all of these teams had a size advantage on CAM and them Raider boys hung in there and hooked and jabbed with the best of them. Your gonna need more than a couple of big boys to intimidiate them Raiders in the trenches. Come out of the get 100%, CAM has to start fast and then pour it on untill the final wistle. INTENSITY!!
November 3rd, 2009 at 9:48 pm
clown from the north…..i bet you graduated in the 80’s and still wear your football jersey to bed at night….lmao… porta is going to win a good one
nobody - that’s what these blogs are for….don’t read it if you can’t take the heat, it’s all in fun…..well MOSTLY in fun.
November 4th, 2009 at 2:57 am
Go Cowboys!!! See I dont care if CAM or Porta wins..LOL…Warriors will be waiting for MF anyways
November 4th, 2009 at 7:25 am
my keith jackson impression…”whoaa nelly!”…..cw warrior fn, you sooo crazy!
November 4th, 2009 at 7:26 am
Actually CW, if I had a choice I’d want PORTA to beat both CAM and MF. If that happens and CW wins the next 2, we get a home semi-final game for the first time ever.
November 4th, 2009 at 7:49 am
Cwalum, you have a good team as always but you better be cautious about looking ahead to the semi’s. You’ve got a tough Red-Bud team this week and maybe an even tougher Williamsville next week. I hope you beat both. Also will both of those games be home games?
November 4th, 2009 at 8:04 am
loop-t: I’m just hoping things work out, that’s all. I’m fully aware of the tough team we have in front of us this week. I’m actually a little worried about it to be honest. We play Red Bud away this week. IF we win this week, our next game is a home game. IF we make it to the semi’s, it will be home if against PORTA for sure, and it all depends on who wins this week amongst the rest of the teams.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:49 am
Beast from the east, yes I still wear my jersey to bed every night! Whats wrong with that! I bet you still wear that managers shirt they let you wear for whatever team u root for or managed for! Hey dont you need to go get the players some water? bwahahahahaaa you are still a dork!
November 4th, 2009 at 11:56 am
the toughest competion isnt against an opponent…it is with oneself!!! Evaluate with honesty your own short comings, strive to adjust, correct or improve the problems, do what you do well,..consistantly and as they say…the rest will take care of itself…do these things and you will find success, …Grasshopper
Go Okaw!
—————–
November 4th, 2009 at 1:06 pm
Raiders are in a world of trouble….the Bluejays are ready for a title run and have faced much better competition than A&M…
November 4th, 2009 at 1:27 pm
West: A & M is in the OKAW so you must be confused.
November 4th, 2009 at 1:30 pm
Westisn’tthebest,
Thanks for yet another baseless comment from the PORTA-pot point of view. PORTA should just concentrate on Maroa and save their energy. Perhaps you should save your starters for the Maroa game as well. Your over confidence is very encouraging for me.
A&M by 2 touchdowns
November 4th, 2009 at 1:42 pm
Okaw #1: Baseless comments are what this entire blog is ‘based’ on. There’s a comment with some base. hahaha
November 4th, 2009 at 2:56 pm
Okaw might be decent, but I’m not convinced it’s better than the Sangamo….Auburn beat St. Teresa…right? Just checking…and from what I heard A&M should really be 5-4
November 4th, 2009 at 2:56 pm
6-4…I mean
November 4th, 2009 at 3:11 pm
West - yes Auburn (the third place team from the Sangamo) beat St. Teresa (IMO the fourth best team in the Okaw) by 7 points. Not quite enough data to make an argument for either conference. Lets schedule Williamsville against Sullivan…that should help you make your case.
November 4th, 2009 at 3:17 pm
West - You also say that Porta has played much better competition. Porta had 35 playoff points and A&M had 41 playoff points. Looks like A&M played tougher competition to me.
November 4th, 2009 at 3:22 pm
WESTISLEAST: your talking Porta-Potty!The Stank-mo conference has how many state titles? Heck add um up combined….have ANY?….or is it the big O-fer?…doesnt really matter..after this Saturday the Okaw will still be chuggin along….toot-toot!
November 4th, 2009 at 3:33 pm
westisntbest,
Try 10-0 maybe 9-1 at worst
November 4th, 2009 at 3:33 pm
Upon further review…Porta had 40 playoff points…didnt account for their week 9 non conference points. Sorry West. still looks like even competition with the slight edge going to A&M.
November 4th, 2009 at 4:10 pm
All Radier fans need not worry about PORTA. You lost 3 games this season with the ball, under 1 min, with a chance to win the game. And you really should’ve lost that Tuscola game, but escaped. CAM has a very good team this year but the turnovers, penalties, and slow starts have cost them. In the past couple of weeks things have been looking much better but if I were a Raider I would concentrating on the basics, holding on to the ball, making minimal mistakes, and playing with a lot of heart. The last one is the reason this team has great potential. This team has grown up through 10 games and I’m just ready to see another exciting CAM game, win or lose!
November 4th, 2009 at 8:13 pm
Justin Conn- I just watched your video preps preview….You went to MTZ on Friday…Loss, went to St. T’s on Saturday…Loss. Please dont come to the Raider Game on Saturday…Not superstitious, but why risk it! LOL…….Leroy, Come on Down!
November 4th, 2009 at 10:41 pm
A&M fans, don’t worry.
I am covering the Central A&M vs. Anna Jonesboro game on Saturday. The Justin Conn curse is headed to the Maroa-Forsyth at Bismarck-Henning.
Good luck, Trojans.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:18 pm
lol, wow a&m is really going to have their hands full with anna jonesboro!!! thought porta was going to be hard enough!
November 5th, 2009 at 6:00 am
Leroy,
Thanks for plannng to come to the A&M game. I’m sure the other guy was joking about Justin. You should plan to come a little early if you want, there is a tail gate starting at 11:30. I think you would enjoy it. Should be an exciting game to cover as well.
GO RAIDERS!!!!!!!!
November 5th, 2009 at 7:22 am
Can i just say this. Growing up in this area I have seen teams like A&M and STT be powerhouses almost every year. Going to Moweaqua to play the Raiders was something that no one wanted to do. They had great teams, an excelllent head coach, and a lot of support from the town. The past couple of years it’s no secret that the Raiders have been down and it’s nice to see a team with so much history get back into the thick of things. I love playoff football because I love the atmosphere with the sidelines packed and the tailgating, and the Saturday’s getting colder. This is one of the reasons why I am an Okaw fan. We have that atmosphere with big games during the season. And I’m sure others do as well, but being able to be at a game in which you have no connections and just want to watch some competitive football is pretty awesome. Win or lose they have had a great season and should be just as good next year.
November 5th, 2009 at 7:55 am
Im guessing these two teams are very evenly matched. Auburn is a great program and has been for several years now. I still would give over strength of schedule in A&M’s favor.
———————————-
WestisBest: ???
I agree that Auburn, Williamsville, and Porta are all at the least on the same level as MF, Tuscola, St.T, A&M, Monticello, and Unity. But you see the difference there right????? Okaw is a VERY deep conference. But all of Porta’s Non-Conference games were against the Priarie State Conference, which got shalacked in the first round of the playoffs. (0-4)!!!!!!! Mt. O, Pawnee, Gillispie, and Staunton lost to Bismark-Henning????
———————————-
I think it will be a shootout, seems like Porta likes to give some points up…like 34 points to a 1-8 Kincaid team that been bad for 2 decades. I still think Porta is solid, but not solid enough
———————————-
I like A&M 34-28. How about 10-1 for the OKAW conference after this weekend boys?!?!?!
November 5th, 2009 at 10:52 am
Ummm, the Sangamo has only existed for this one season, so it would be hard for them to have won any championships. A&M may have a lot of playoff points, but they still only beat two teams with winning records.
November 5th, 2009 at 11:08 am
Keys for CAM win. Start playing all four quarters, you guys need to stop letting teams take a 14 or 21 point lead, before you get your heads on straight. If you correct this trend you will go far in play-offs.
GO RAIDERS!!!!!
November 5th, 2009 at 11:40 am
Come on Raiders we win you win! Lets make this an all Okaw quarters!
November 5th, 2009 at 12:21 pm
Take away the fact that the stunkmo conference is in its first year then…still take the teams in it and how many championships have been produced? There are many teams over the years I can recall that have made it to state, many on a regular basis…..but Ummm…none of your teams ring a bell other than Auburn, and have they brought home #1?
November 5th, 2009 at 12:36 pm
A little advise for all us Okaw fans!…everyone take a good Potty break before we go to the games. All the play-off excitement will creep up on you….like getting out in the woods…climbing in the tree stand…then its to late…Now down here at CAM same advise, except players, once you’re suited up,…you’ll just have to leave it on the field at the PORTA-Potty!
hehe …a little bathroom humor
November 5th, 2009 at 1:08 pm
Massey Ratings have central A&M 28 and porta 21 go look for your self http://www.highschoolsports.net/defaultcal300×250.cfm?ct=matchup&schoolid=AZ8600116164&spt=4&timeoffset=360
November 5th, 2009 at 1:26 pm
This blog went south in a hurry!
November 5th, 2009 at 3:03 pm
coriolis Effect
November 5th, 2009 at 4:19 pm
A&M doesn’t need to pay attention to anything except being totally prepared for a tough game. No turnovers, no dumb penalties, and start this game and finish this game at the highest intensity you have played so far.
A&M has everthing it takes to win this game but they need to get it out and use it starting with the first play of the game, and every play after.
Lets go Raiders, don’t go lite and get burned.
BRING IT A&M!!!!!!!
November 5th, 2009 at 4:50 pm
A@M is BACK:
That’s funny. You didn’t even include that I jinxed the A&M girls basketball team two years in a row. They would be two-time defending state champs if it wasn’t for me covering them at state in 08 and at the sectional semi in 09. I still think they were the best team both years.
That said, I DID cover Meridian’s state title in boys basketball last year, so apparently the jinx isn’t universal.
I’ll do what I can NOT to jinx Maroa on Saturday, because I’d love to see the Maroa/A&M rematch in the quarterfinals.
November 5th, 2009 at 6:10 pm
Justin, I am not superstitous, but I am glad you aren’t going to the Tuscola/B.C. game. You were at Tuscola and St.T. Remember how that turned out for the Warriors? In any case, CAM needs to go hard from the beginning and maintain the intensity. It would be great to see the Okaw go 10-1 after this weekend.
November 6th, 2009 at 5:56 am
Justin, just some history for you. Back in the 80’s the people from Maroa use to say the same thing about Bob Fallstrom. They said whatever game he would be covering MF would lose. haha Cause we all know he was blocking, running the ball and passing! I love the superstition in sports! When I played the lineman wouldnt wash their practice pants until we lost. Let me tell you that was the worse locker room smell you could imagine! I have heard a lot of stories about superstition from local area schools, and they all seem pretty funny! Good luck to all this weekend!
November 6th, 2009 at 7:57 am
AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Does ANYONE know if there is a radio channel covering this game that might be able to get picked up in Peoria of all places!!!? Or a radio station that might have it on streaming radio on the internet and i can take my laptop? ….I just got wife smacked into driving her and her friends to some transberian orchestra show at 2….and im not even attending…just driving the limo!!!the good news is i can sit in the limo and listen if I’m lucky! Hey justin ..where can i find the twitter updates? A&M, YOU MUST WIN so I can go to the quarter game against MTF!!!
PLEASE HELP!!! she tried to intice me with going to the boat afterwards, but hey…..there is a game on HUN!!!
November 6th, 2009 at 8:01 am
Yes the above is true……to sad to make-up…
November 6th, 2009 at 8:50 am
AM is back, man up dude and hire someone to drive them! U need to go to the game! All I know is if u go to 1050am website and in the upper right hand their is a button listen live, they might be covering the game this Saturday for CAM. I will do some checking, it was either MF or CAM.
November 6th, 2009 at 11:19 am
at least A&M fans won’t have to travel for their last game of the year….
November 6th, 2009 at 1:17 pm
West: that was fuel for the fire!
November 6th, 2009 at 1:50 pm
Westisntthebest,
Wouldn’t be to sure of A&M travel plans over the next few weeks if I were you.
PORTA will be traveling for their last game though because it is at A&M tomorrow.
November 6th, 2009 at 2:33 pm
Westisnotthebest…you guys ran your mouths a few years ago before St T came over there and putting a beating on you on your own field. Expect the same tomorrow. You won’t measure up to Okaw standards. See you at 1 tomorrow.
PS Bring some aspirin because you will be sore after the game is over.
November 6th, 2009 at 8:20 pm
I love how eveyone on here talks smack. i guess that’s what these blogs are for. Either way MF wins this one easy by two or three touchdowns. BH is lucky to be here and unfortunately the season ends here. Unless they have four or more turnovers this is no contest. However there might be only two Okaw teams left after this week. I like Tuscola in a close game and I like A&M to win but they won’t run away with it and either team could just as easily lose. Now it would be a BIG surprise if Monticello gets past Carthage. Excited for SAT!
November 6th, 2009 at 9:51 pm
Go CAM! Just like last week, run it down their stinkin` throats. CAM by 21.
November 6th, 2009 at 11:20 pm
just found a youtube video of the 3-5-3 defense porta runs. the sound is some junk music,(turn it down) and the video is just ok, but it can give you an idea of what it looks like…go to youtube and search porta bluejays 3-5-3 and it should come up…if your interested…or just go to the game and see how to beat it!….go RAIDERS!
November 6th, 2009 at 11:52 pm
I’m assuming WestistheBest isn’t the same guy who blogs on here as West is Best. Am I right?
A@M is BACK: Sorry to hear about your plight. And Trans-Siberian Orchestra? Ouch! At least you don’t have to listen to it. I don’t know that any station is covering it. WDZ is broadcasting Maroa. But you can follow it on our Twitter feed at twitter.com/hrpreps.
November 7th, 2009 at 12:00 am
On curses: That’s funny about Fallstrom. When I worked in Jacksonville, Bluffs’ boys basketball coach used to call me the black cat. Also in Jacksonville, the reporter who covers Jacksonville High had the reputation and HATED it. His name is Brian Webster. He’s still there. A good guy and a good writer. He just covers a, for the most part, bad sports program.
And, I added another piece of evidence into my jinx file last night when St. Teresa’s volleyball team got upset by Effingham St. Anthony. The way I look at it, as a reporter, you’re going to cover more losers than winners in the postseason. And I always have two state football titles (Carthage in 98 and 99), two girls basketball state titles (Carrollton in 01 and 02) and Meridian last year. How many state titles have you covered, LEROY! (He was blowing me crap).
November 7th, 2009 at 12:27 am
Justin- Ididnt know there was history in what i noticed from your preps preview! dont feel bad, last year everytime my wife and i went out for a drink and watched an Illini basketball or football game…they seemed to lose…guess i should have had 1 more and maybe i wouldnt have noticed! haha
———–
i tried evrywhere looking for a radio station that is gonna cover the game…maybe wmkr 94.3?<not sure if they stream live.. if not maybe a springfield station…OR it might be time to sabatoge the limo! maybe the paper will list coverage in the morning.. i’ll be checking twitter. Good Luck Raiders and if your phone is ringing answer!!!! I’ll need an update!
November 7th, 2009 at 6:48 am
wmkr 94.3 should be covering the game. GOOGLE Taylorville Radio stations you should find it there. It may be listed as a Pana station. And I do believe they have live internet coverage.
November 7th, 2009 at 10:30 am
Anyone notice that Tolono was completely snubbed by the H&R this week? Not on the game blog and not even listed in the game matchups in the paper this morning. wth?
November 7th, 2009 at 10:31 am
hope so….I’m about to head the WRONG direction! Go Okaw…GO RAIDERS!
November 7th, 2009 at 11:23 am
Trojan Gods: We don’t cover Tolono. Don’t sell any papers there.
November 7th, 2009 at 1:20 pm
Just a reminder — the H&R’s Sports Desk blog is still kicking.

November 7th, 2009 at 4:10 pm
Okaw 4-1…great job Raiders…and other conferences wonder why we are proud?!! we had 24 more play-off games than Porta for a reason!
November 7th, 2009 at 5:21 pm
Great job CAM…way to shut their mouths! I dont look for them to come on here and say anything! Sangamo, basketball practice starts tomorrow! hahahahahahaaaaa See u next weekend CAM! I wont start any crap til Monday, its still all about the OVC going 9-2 in the first 2 rounds and shutting up all those Sangamo freaks, and oh yeah, u LIC people too!
November 7th, 2009 at 6:06 pm
Way to go Raiders. Excellent deffense, Excellent blocking O-Line, that is how you control the line of scrimmage. With the score of 23-0 CAM sent out a statement to the Sangamo Conf, practice up PORTA make a run next year, the Blue Jays fought till the bitter end, never seen any quit in those boys, thats what succesful programs are made from. Get ready Trojans ROUTE 51 WAR 09 !!!!!!!!!
November 7th, 2009 at 6:13 pm
GOOD JOB RAIDERS. SEE YOU NEXT WEEK AT THE BOYD.
November 7th, 2009 at 6:34 pm
Congrates CAM! A very impressive win. Can someone tell me which Sangamo team is advancing in the playoffs? HAHA
November 7th, 2009 at 8:16 pm
MF is clicking right now. Will be tough for A&M to beat MF at home.. MF 31 A&M 20….
November 7th, 2009 at 8:49 pm
Ok, here we go. A&M looked very impressive defensively Sat. PORTA had no answer for what they saw on offensive. I guess when you run all over those “mighty” Sangamo teams and an Okaw team stops you to 48 rushing yards, I’d be frustrated too! And show a little class PORTA, that kid slamming his helmet down in front of the ref then the other 2 personal foul penalties were just embarassing, and show was that teams performance. A&M didn’t have a great day on offense but they stuck with the running game and it sealed the victory. The way these two teams are playing it’s anyone’s guess who will take this one. Last game A&M getting behind so fast hurt them, obviously but this should be a different ball game. This is gonna be exciting. I say tight all the way through and in the end MF 34-28. I’m just ready to see some high class football, lets get ready for the rematch of Hwy 51!

Let’s get ready to rumble! Too bad we couldn’t have played this game in Champaign (title game). What a show that would have been.

“Trojan Gods: We don’t cover Tolono. Don’t sell any papers there.”
Ok. They were the OKAW champs. You guys can’t throw them a bone with a game thread? What if I get a PO box in Tolono and get a paper delivered there? Rediculous.
Oh, and good game A&M. Way to show them how we do it in the OKAW.

Trojan,
What would really be ridiculous is if you really did spend money on a PO box in Tolono and drive over there to get your deliveries.
But I guess we could do that for Tolono. And while we’re at it, we could do it for Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin and Danville and Normal and Greenville …
But thanks for the input and keep entertaining us.

Where are all the Sangamo Conf loudmouths?? they probably got sleepy from all the crow they had to eat today. Just saying, OVC 4 quarterfinalist.

Administrator,
Now wait a minute. I would agree that maybe TG’s comment was a little sarcastic and the delivery of his message was questionable but I do think there is some validity to it. Tolono’s situation is completely different than all of the other schools/communities that you mentioned. The Decatur Herald covers ALL other Okaw teams, correct? How much cost is it to the Decatur Herald to add ‘one more’ game thread on it’s website? That being said, wouldn’t the Decatur Herald (assuming that you don’t already think of it this way) want to be the ‘hub’ (or main media outlet) of the Okaw? In order to do so, you need to cover ALL of the teams. So why not include Tolono as much as possible. I believe TG was attempting to ask, What does the Decatur Herald have to lose by ‘throwing them a bone?’ If the Champaign Gazette isn’t covering ALL of the Okaw teams (and they don’t) then isn’t there an opportunity for the Decatur Herald to sell some newspapers in Tolono? I’m betting there is. And considering that Tolono was not in a conference prior to joining the Okaw, a golden opportunity is possibly being passed up. But with the attitude of ‘if they buy our paper, then we’ll cover them’ continues then growth is NEVER going to happen. Someone has it backwards!

Congrats to CAM on a great win. I honestly didn’t see this one coming. This was definitely the upset of the week in my mind. Anyways, good luck next week vs MF and I look forward to that LIC/Okaw showdown in the semi’s.

Mike T: Don’t waste your breath. I think the “administrator” answered my question and proved my point all at once. It’s really sad that the H&R is all about the $$$ and could care less about it’s customers or community. Classy response, Admin. Good lord.

cwalum: That game was not an “upset”. From what I heard Petersburg never even got close to scoring and A&M should have won by a lot more than they did. Another team underestimated the OKAW and ran into it’s buzzsaw.

There are always places to add more to the Web site. We cover the majority of the Apollo. And we can add threads on all of their teams. We cover most of the Little Illini. I bet Casey might like to interact with more of the teams they see each week. Many of our customers and readers are in the city of Decatur. They probably would like to see more on the Big 12’s successful teams. Same with the teams in the Central State Eight, etc.
Unfortunately, while it does not cost anything more to the Web site, it does take time and manpower — two things that are not infinite.
As the principal said on another thread, there are a lot of things going on in here and they need to be constantly moderated. We can’t simply trust people to behave themselves.
Plus, the more we add, the more time it takes away from providing material on the core teams we should care the most about.
I’m crossing my fingers that we can double the staff in the next few months so we can get all of that taken care.
However I won’t hold my breath.
And if the H&R was strictly in it for the money, this blog might not exist. The pickem contest might not exist. The vodcasts, the post-game videos, scoreboard, etc might not exist.
Instead, it is the sports department’s intention to continue to add to our Web site as we have done every year. And we will always consider suggestions — even the ones that are made in less than a positive manner.

Way to go Raiders!!!!! And way to play as a team effort. Keep your ONE WEEK AT A TIME PREPARATION WORKING FOR YOU!!!!

Administrator, I see your point, and I am sure that few papers are sold in the communities you, but attracting them to your website is a good thing: You have many advertisers on your web page, for which I am sure you recieve compensation from them. As the idea of a printed paper changes, this would be a way to draw more of those communites towards your paper. There have been many writeups for Tuscola, Tolono, and Monticello games that have been much better in your paper than in the News Gazzette. Lure them in to your paper, and keep your sponsors happy.
November 9th, 2009 at 11:08 am
I am not sure but is the Gazzette and the Herald Review owned by the same company? I know the company that owns Herald and Review owns several newspapers. And its like a paper route they each own their little neighborhood!

OK i think this may be the third or fourth time the Admin has made similar statements, so i dont think they are going to really expand upon their coverage on Unity, but they did say they will give them a thread (although they may have been subtle sarcasm) so to me thats a good start. Furthermore, since he did say they dont get much positive feedback, i will say that the game central blogs are a lot of fun, adding a thread for Unity would be a good start in my book.

Thanks, WestistheBest. Classy fans from PORTA! My wife mentioned how they (PORTA fans) kept saying good luck and other compliments after the game. That is very tough to do after losing. Great group of fans from PORTA! Good luck the rest of the year in your other sports!

that is the truth, PORTA has some very respectable fans, coaches, and players. Very classy organization.
