South Piatt at Brown County

October 26, 2009 at 12:21 pm

South Piatt’s reward for getting into the playoffs for the first time since 2003 is the No. 1 team that has given up just nine points all season.

Of the 32 1A schools, South Piatt is ranked 32nd in points scored per game and is playing a team that is number 1 in BOTH points allowed per game and points scored per game. The ball will have to take a lot of South Piatt bounces if they are looking at any chance of pulling off the shocker of a lifetime.

You guys have to give South Piatt some kind of chance. This is pretty Impressive of them to get in the playoffs. It’s been awhile.

After watching some clips of Brown County this week, I think SP can play with them. If they limit their mistakes, and keep their running offense off the field, anything can happen. Plus, SP has a lot of momentum going in the playoffs. Last year, Orangeville (5-4) defeated #1 Dakota on their home field in the first round. Brown County runs about 85% of the time and it looks like a version of the wing-t. South Piatt ran that for years and can prepare for it easier.

how can they win when they dont score? Defense is where it’s at….brown co. has a ton of it. vg killed sp with the run, and my guess is they don’t run like brown co.

I agree cgdrinker-SP is in trouble on both sides of the ball. No upset here-not even with momentum going into the game.

I will also add good luck to SP-you made the play-offs, made good strides this year, play your best and you will be able to keep your head held high.

beardog is right.I have watched film also.cgdrinkr01 needs to check on the latest scores from around LOVC lately.Villa Grove beat us because of turnovers not rushing.Check the stats,or ask them.Brown County does not impress me any, along with the weak schedule and film I have seen.We are planning on going to Mt.Sterling beating this team.Go SPW!

I want the area teams to win…but I know Concord Triopia’s team pretty well..check their record 70-12 last 6 years..14-0 state champs last year and 8-1 this year…their one loss, you guessed it- Brown Co. (10-3) the other teams Brown Co. whipped up on may be weak,Im not sure, but they did beat at least 1 quality team…Brown Co. 41-6

One thing that South Piatt needs to do is take the ball if they win the coin flip. This will show BC that they are not scared of them and feel like they can move the ball on them. I know this is hard to understand for a lot of football fans, but we need to support our conference teams in the playoffs….no matter who they are. Anything can happen on any given night. Every play in the playbook would be open this week.

Go SPW. I know it will be a tough game, but as a fellow LOVC member I wish you all the best, as ANY LOVC member should. At least they made it to the playoff’s and several people on here from other LOVC towns have underestimated them all year. Good luck Wildcats.

I think the LOVC is down from its usually already down conference. Their conference was 3-13 non-league games this season. That doesn’t look good for any team out of that conference. Granted this was early in the season and South Piatt have won their last 4 games and the field is going to be a mud pit over there. Never underestimate the power of momentum and how it can elavate your play especially with a big turnover or play early in the game. Also the mud pit will create a low scoring theme. Look at all the games last night… 20-6, 16-0, 20-13, all these games low scoring. This is a great equalizer for teams that were outmatched.

Not surprising, but heard South Piatt was a little dirty, and had several late hits. Is that taught there?

It all starts from the Head Coach and works its way down to the players. South Piatt played very dirty against Cerro Gordo with lots of late hits. They did the same thing against Mt.Sterling Brown County. Teams that do this usually haven’t won much in the past and don’t know how to win gracefully or with class. Teams like this think that late hit call it “playing tough”! Going out, smashing someone in the mouth on both sides of the ball without late hitting is playing tough! It us unfortunate because it makes South Piatt look bad when there program seems to be on the rise.

Sounds like your a little sore Mustang Ranch. Get over it.Next week or next year we all play another game.Quit your trash talking. You have forgot ,or do not even know what it’s like to be a player on the field.

You know sometimes ignorance is bliss I enjoy watching the kids play football all around the area and root for so many teams this time of year and yes you can tell the winners and the right programs. Some are big hitters, some are speed and finesse some are dirty. I don’t like some of the things I have seen but one thing I do know is that CG has anyone on here above the third grade I would be shocked. One of the coaches even put a bounty on a SP player the last game. You just didn’t have corrupt officials to take over for you and your still crowing about it. Anyone that saw the Mt. Sterling game can speak for the reason they haven’t been scored on all year why the IHSA isn’t involved in that I don’t know. The boys from Mt. Sterling deserve a year of a great team that the adult children can’t stay out of is the problem similar the the sour grapes of the mustang faithful.
