I see Freeburg was 4 points away from being 7-2 and defeating Breese Mater Dei. A possible 2nd round opponent for both Freeburg and Mount Zion. All teams in playoffs are tough. Possible 3rd round opponents could be Metemora or Champaign.

Braves defense can hold with anyone in 4A Illinois Football/offense is improving every week and is playing tight in recent weeks…Metamora (ultimately a 5A powerhouse) will not be easy, but I see Mt. Zion making a semi-final match-up against Rochester for a best-of-the-best gridiron battle.

Trever B: That’s being pretty optimistic, don’t you think? A quarterfinal matchup vs. Metamora would be a test that MTZ has not had all year. No question their defense can play with anybody, but they also have to be able to move the ball. It would be a great game.

You know, wh ycant you just congratulate them on the season they had? Unless youre in the Apollo, you really have no dog in this fight. I personally dislike MTZ (I am from effingham before you say/think anything), but I still respect them for what they managed to do. From the sound of things, This game could have easily gone to MTZ. Unless you played in this game, you have no right to critisize what these young men did.

MTZ plays one good team all year…..gets up for that one game and goes 9-0. And if anyone was talking ‘going to Champaign’, they are really being mislead. Better off playing a ‘good’ schedule and going 7-2. At least you would be more ready for the playoffs. Unless of course, MTZ is a ‘feel good’ community.

Freeburg Power - I am not taking anything away from Freeburg. You played to win! I am tired of hearing how the apollo is so weak, it doesn’t matter and it had no effect on how mtz played that game. You guys played your best game of the season and we played our worst. I think we were over confident and spent to much time looking ahead instead of focusing on you. I don’t like to make excuses but the stars just did not line up. Mt. Zion is a better team and I know that we would beat you over and over again. Good Luck Freeburg on the road ahead. You will need it.

Guys it depends on what you want. Your conference is not a football conference and some of the teams are too small those are the facts. Tolono beat Robinson I know you would have better games playing in the Okaw. You are way too big and good for the Okaw but the same could be said for the Apollo its hurting you. I think if you stay you should take 2 games every year and play schools your size. Like Taylorville, Mattoon, Ike, Mac, Mahomet. That way I don’t think it would upset the apple cart. I personally think between the northern bigger schools in the Apollo and a couple of schools of similar size you could form a very good conference.

tb, most of the apollo schools do play nonconference teams about their size. effingham played BMD and Tville, tho the tville series is over and we’re playing mahomet next year. MTZ played Licoln and Bethalto I believe. Robinson played SJO and Mount Carmel. Charleston plays Tville and Highland. I cant think of who everyone else played. Also Robinson is on the way back to being a quality team and contender for the the conference. I do agree with you that the apollo isnt like the okaw in being a stacked football conference, and i will agreee that some of the teams are too small. I think the best scenario would be to get mattoon and casey join to balnce it out, or get anotehr 2 teams after that and got to a two division setup like the okaw.

Freeburg came prepared, they came looking for a piece of stuck ups who thought they’re record could float them to the turf in champaign. well.. mtz thought wrong and freeburg and did wat only they believed in, that was knocking heads around. i honestly believe we, freeburg, were underestimated, no one gave us nothing, and people were and are stupid to believe that we dont deserve a spot in these playoffs. Sorry Mt Zion that u got in our way, and u believed wrong. Maybe next year u’ll learn not to be so cocky and actually play football

Mtz sorry you got in our way. Sometimes when you meet unstopable object its best just to get out of the way. Its very hard for a train to run through a mountain. Mtz had some average backs and a good field goal kicker. A smarter free thinking football team will always do better than a big mouth talking tarzan football team. I hope that the mtz seniors will help cheer on the Freeburg football

Im from effingham, so this game didnt really matter to me, but its not like you dominated then. 30-21 is not a huge beatdown like you guys are making you sound like. Yes, you upset a higher ranked team ,and possibly better overall, and congrats on that. BTW, why are you guys called the midgets? know i dont have any room to talk with our school being the flaming hearts, but I’m curious on your naming.

were called the midgets because back in the day we had a boys basketball team who were all under 6 ft. and they were really good…so I guess the name just kinda stuck

Year in & year out the braves win the Apollo in just about all sports. Is’nt it great these kids can grow up & say they won almost all the time. shhh don’t mention post season it might hurt somebody’s feelings.

You got beat stomped by BMD again don’t talk shit. You beat MTZ at their worst time in the season on a muddy field and they are a run team. From what I understand their tailback had the flu and many other kids on there team….also some coaches were out the week leading up to the game. All of you want to run your mouth but in the end what did you end up with….nothin. No titles no nothin
