It’s been about the defense at Tuscola as the Warriors haven’t allowed an offensive touchdown in three games. They could be pushed by Cumberland’s strong ground game.

What kind of Offensive and Defensive line does Cumberland have? Is their line big, quick, experienced? Don’t know much about the Cumberland team.
October 26th, 2009 at 1:04 pm
I know Coach Reinhart has threatened to make any of his players run if they mention week 2, but he can’t make me run. I think that will be a great match-up with the #1 seed.
October 26th, 2009 at 1:12 pm
what about if they mention the possibility of a week # 3 re-match with the TROJANS (like BaT and A@M have on last week’s blog??)?
October 26th, 2009 at 1:15 pm
sorry — my bad! I thought you meant the Raiders and coach Ramsey –I think T-cola will do GREAT and coach is absolutely right to make the team focus on ONE GAME AT A TIME!!
October 26th, 2009 at 1:17 pm
Unity was the only team to amass over 100 yards rushing this season on the Warriors. And that mostly on one play in that game. Although I haven’t seen Cumberland play this season, I still highly doubt they possess any more of a potent rushing attack than what Tuscola has already faced this year in A&M, Unity, and St. Teresa.
————————————-
One glaring note on Cumberland was their 21 - 20 victory over a (2-7) Lawerenceville team.
————————————-
I still think Cumberland is from a solid conference and that has to be considered and Cumberland defensive numbers are solid. Casey and Marshall are more than just respectable as teams, but if Cumberland is just 1 dimensional they will not score at all, they have to become an arial threat to beat Tuscola. In each of Tuscola’s 3 losses this season just look back and see in the statistics on what was the deciding factor in those games. Passing yardage. Unity passed for 150, CAM for 250, and St. Teresa 150.
————————————
I see a game a lot like Argenta/Tuscola game. Cumberland has a solid defense and Tuscola inconsistant on offense, though explosive. I believe Tuscola win the field position battle which will inevitably lead to Cumberlands downfall.
————————————
Meyer runs for one, throws for one, and Scribner runs for another. Cumberland takes an early 3-0 lead, then Tuscola overpowers them in the second half. I like Tuscola 28 - 3.

just4fun,
You might hear a few A&M fans (not many) look ahead with comments like that, but you won’t hear any coaches or players doing it.
Warrior fan,
You are right about the one dimmentional. If A&M didn’t have a good passing game they would have lost the battle with Tuscola I believe.
Good luck to all OVC teams in the playoffs!!
October 26th, 2009 at 3:25 pm
Tear em up, Tuscola. Give Cumberland an Okaw beating. Good luck!
October 26th, 2009 at 4:13 pm
Tcola 42
Cumberland 7
October 26th, 2009 at 6:35 pm
find the cumberland gap…and pound it there, over and over till they dont want anymore….Tuscola at home wins big..35-6
October 26th, 2009 at 7:35 pm
tuscola shuts them out 28-0
October 26th, 2009 at 11:44 pm
pirstes are as good as they get in the rushing dep.when there on they could be unstopable..Good Luck Pirates!!! Beat Tuscola
October 27th, 2009 at 5:28 am
cw warrior,
Cumberland rushing game is getting ready to run into a good ole fashioned rushing BUZZ SAW. If Cumberland is 1 dimensional with the run (and it sounds like they are) they are in deep dodo.
GO TUSCOLA!!!
October 27th, 2009 at 6:30 am
Cumby is not as one dimensional as you guys think. They can definitely wing it when they want to, better than Tuscola I think. But, they obviously rely heavily on the running game first and foremost. It will be much closer than the 4 or 5 touchdown Tuscola victory some of you are predicting. Go Pirates, sink those Okaw guys in the first round and silence your critics!
October 27th, 2009 at 7:27 am
Good luck to Tuscola, make the Okaw proud.
October 27th, 2009 at 8:14 am
Tuscola 54 Cumberland 0
October 27th, 2009 at 9:42 am
I don’t see this game being a high scoring game. If Cumberland is to win, they will need to keep it close. I think the field conditions will hurt Cumberland more than Tuscola if it’s sloppy. I look for Tuscola to try and control the ball, long drives. Tuscola’s defense will dominate, but the offense won’t score that often, my prediction is 20-6.
October 27th, 2009 at 2:10 pm
Tuscola Alum:
Agree I think this game will be similar to the Argenta contest. I know Cumberland is solid, I just don’t see them moving the ball on us, they can’t just be a pass on demand team. Tuscola secondary has improved since moving Yoakam to saftey.
———————————-Forcast for Friday night is calling for 30-40 mph winds with scattered showers. NICE!
October 27th, 2009 at 2:15 pm
I know Saturday is Halloween, but I have to ask this question out of curiosity. Why was this game scheduled for Friday night? This time of year, night games are usually miserable. By playing on a Saturday afternoon, at least there’s a chance to have some decent warm weather. The 10 day forecast going back to last weekend showed this front coming in Friday, it seems we would have been better served to schedule the game for Saturday afternoon. I’m just curious, I know there must have been a reason.
October 27th, 2009 at 3:47 pm
Tuscola Alum: This is just a guess. I’ll bet Reinhart wanted the game Friday night so that, in the event they win, he will have the opportunity to scout the Brown County game on Saturday. That, and the last two games have been in “miserable” conditions and it seems to affect the other team more than Tuscola. The Tuscola defense has been tough in the mud, and the offense has still been able to move the ball. What is decent weather for the fans may not be the most effective weather for this team. A bigger concern for the Warriors is eliminating penalties. Does anybody know how many yards Tuscola was penalized last week? I will gladly bundle up a little bit more if it increases the likelihood of Warrior win.
October 28th, 2009 at 4:30 am
The achilles of Tuscola is their pentalty yardage, 230+ in the last two games. Several of those yards are on undisciplined plays that won’t cut it in the playoffs. Eliminate those “mistakes” and Tuscola makes a long run in 1A, continue to play selfish and basketball starts real soon.
October 28th, 2009 at 7:37 am
gundog:
couldn’t more accurate about Tuscola and it’s penalities. THey have to cut back drastically. This is something that has been present all season long as well. I hope Tuscola just concentrates on Cumberland. This is the one team(Cumberland) I will give credit as probably just on the outside of the top ten in 1A. They are solid, and just easily been 8-1 this season in a very respectable conference with Marshall and Casey-Westfield.
October 28th, 2009 at 10:28 am
Tuscola’s penalties create more field position than opponents rushing games. That’s pretty darn sad. I don’t have the stats for the A-O game, but thru 8 weeks: Opponents gained a total of 387 yards rushing; Tuscola was penalized 56 times for 488 yards. If we add in the A-O estimates, Tuscola has given up less than 500 yards rushing all year and been penalized for 600. That tells me the best offense the Warrior opponents have is the Warriors themselves. Cut the crap and play smart!
October 28th, 2009 at 11:22 am
I know thru halftime of the Argenta game, Argenta had 3 first downs, all by way of penalties on Tuscola! I think Argenta ended up with 6 or so first downs all together for the game.
October 28th, 2009 at 12:06 pm
Tuscola Alum: 2 of those in the 2nd half came against the freshmen and sophomores on the last series of the game. I think the majority of penalties in the 2nd half were on the offense for procedure, blocks in the back, and holding. The penalties did help boost the offensive stats. The Warriors had a 60 yard scoring drive that they had 85 yards of offense on because of the penalties.
October 28th, 2009 at 6:23 pm
Tuscola fans dont worry, if you play hard like you did against my Trojans you will win by 50. Cumberland is about on the same level as Meridian or Warrensburg.
October 28th, 2009 at 8:38 pm
i’ve seen film on cumberland and i don’t think there is anyway they can hang with tuscola tuscolas line is crazy good i think them and CAM have the best lines in the Okaw and i’m not just saying that because i’m a raider fan we’ll be cheering for you tuscola lets show them what the OVC is about and pound these guys
October 30th, 2009 at 9:49 am
anyone know the latest on the weinke kid?
October 30th, 2009 at 10:00 am
Weinke will be back next year. He will not dress or play for the rest of the year.
October 30th, 2009 at 10:08 am
Tuscola 21, Cumberland 8 … should be a great game.
October 30th, 2009 at 1:09 pm
Just 21-8? Is Tuscola just going to play their JV? lol. I’d say Tuscola by a mile in this one.
October 30th, 2009 at 8:29 pm
hmmmm, how about that defense? tuscola shutout….
October 30th, 2009 at 8:49 pm
hum…ANOTHER OKAW WIN! Good Job Tuscola..enjoy your win..next up Brown Co. which beat Concord Triopia this year…and they are good again at 8-1..Wow, two very good defensive teams…you pull that out on the road, and you might just see Triopia again!..
Go Okaw!
October 30th, 2009 at 9:46 pm
Comming in to this game I feared that Cumberland might get blowed out but that was not the case. So now I don’t know if Cumberland is better than I thought or Tuscola is not as good as advertised. Tuscola has a good defense but I don’t think the will hang with Brown County. By the way Casey would have killed Tuscola.
October 30th, 2009 at 9:55 pm
Overall great win for Tuscola. Overcame key losses at some positions due to various reasons, flu, suspension, and once again a mud pit. Thought the defense really shined agian tonight.
—————————————
Tuscola’s offense is starting to concern me somewhat when it comes to redzone productions. Tuscola was a “stellar” 3 for 7 tonight when they had the ball inside the opponents 20. This as a been a reoccuring theme this season for Tuscola. We just don’t score well agianst solid competition.
—————————————
Thought Cumberland was a very solid defensive football team that was very well coached. The only two real mistakes they made tonight were the two INT’s, but other than that they only area they were really overwelmed in was the field position game. Their defense stopped Tuscola on 4 4th down attempts inside the redzone.
————————————–
Cumberland was too one dimensional and some of that was Tuscola
s improved secondary which I thought played very well.
————————————–
Great to see Maroa take down Carlinville with ease. Need A&M to open up some a can of whoop’n on Flora they have a challange in front of them.
October 30th, 2009 at 10:07 pm
Good win for the Warriors. BC next, if they get by SP. The field was muddy and more than likely had a bigger impact on the score than most will realize. Normal conditions and Tuscola rolls.
—-
I fear the offense is too predictable at this point. Play to win, it looks they are are playing not to lose, which is a one way ticket home.
—
I truly hope BC overlooks the Warriors and we can have a great ride home next weekend!
October 31st, 2009 at 5:01 am
Good job Tcola way to take care of business!
November 1st, 2009 at 10:55 am
Good job Warriors!! Way to represent the OVC.
Get that defensive Buzz SAW ready for BC. If SP can move the ball on them I’m sure you can too.
Take care of buisiness this week and I see another W and Quarters for you.
Go Warriors!!!
Go OVC!!!!

I see that my commment on the kid suspended was taken off. I apologize if I crossed over boundries stating what I said. Singling out one kid isn’t right, but it wasn’t my intention. The fact is the kid that got into trouble has faced an uphill battle most of his life. He’s a good kid that just made a immature decision. He was definitely the heart and soul of this team.
