DECATUR - Mark Scranton promised "We're going to have the world's biggest toga party" as the Decatur Celebration entertainment lineup was announced Thursday in Central Park.

The Plain White T's, as previously reported, were confirmed as the Sunday night headliner, with a single 5:30 p.m. show.

Previously unannounced acts appearing at the Aug. 1 to 3 downtown Decatur event include Junior Walker's All Stars; Motown act The Contours ("Do You Love Me"); Decatur native Pauli Carman and his group Champaign ("How 'Bout Us"); Perfunctory, a Grateful Dead tribute act; and Christian performers Pledge and the Robbie Seay Band.

Other previously announced acts confirmed at the news conference included The Smithereens, Vince Vance and The Valiants, Edgar Winter, The Bay City Rollers and Paul McCartney tribute act Band on the Run.

The act that Scranton touted as the inspiration for his toga party idea is Otis Day and The Knights. The band was featured in the film "Animal House," and this year is the 30th anniversary of that film's release.

"The uniqueness of Otis Day and The Knights, even though he's an older gentleman, and Plain White T's will be strong attractions," Celebration producer Fred Puglia said.

Another attraction at Celebration will be drag racing champion "Big Daddy" Don Garlits.

The event's logo, designed by the Herald & Review's Michelle Morthland, also was unveiled.
