SPRINGFIELD - Oscar-winner Marvin Hamlisch will kick off the 2007-08 performing arts season at Sangamon Auditorium.
A number of Broadway shows will also be featured in the venue on the University of Illinois at Springfield campus.
Hamlisch, also a winner of Grammys, Emmys, Golden Globes, a Tony and a Pulitzer Prize, will perform Sept. 14.
Other musical performances at Sangamon Auditorium will include:
Jethro Tull, Oct. 15; Yamato - The Drummers of Japan, Oct. 28; Marie Osmond's Magic of Christmas, Dec. 11; Jazz guitarist Chris Korblein, Jan. 26; Phil Coulter with his Irish Pops Orchestra, March 12; the Kronos Quartet performing "Sun Rings," featuring the Springfield Choral Society, March 18; and folk singer Arlo Guthrie, May 15.
Stage acts include Rob Becker's one-man show "Defending the Caveman," Oct. 5 and 6; L.A. Theatre Works, featuring Stacy Keach performing "Top Secret: The Battle for The Pentagon Papers," Feb. 1; and a sixth Springfield performance by Hal Holbrook in "Mark Twain Tonight!" on April 19.
The Georgian State Dance Company will be the first dance production on Oct. 3, followed by the Diavolo dance troupe, Nov. 9, and the St. Petersburg Ballet Theatre performing Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake," Jan. 16.
The Broadway series will feature "Hairspray," Sept. 30; STOMP, Oct. 23; "Gypsy," Nov. 5; "Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash," Jan. 14; "Evita," Jan. 30; "Cats," March 3; and "Movin' Out" (a combination of Billy Joel music and Twyla Tharp choreography), May 9.
The family series opens with the Cashore Marionettes performing "Simple Gifts" on Oct. 12; Riders in the Sky's "Christmas the Cowboy Way," Nov. 30; the Golden Dragon Acroboats, Feb. 17; and the Fred Garbo Inflatable Theater Co., April 18.
