DECATUR - The Decatur Youth Symphony Orchestra will conclude its Kirkland Fine Arts Center season at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 6.
The concert will feature performances by Kaylene Beal and Therese Miller, the group's concerto competition winners.
Beal will be the soloist on Mozart's Concerto in E-flat for Horn.
Beal has played horn for eight years, and this is her fifth season with the Decatur Youth Symphony Orchestra - the last three as principal horn. She is also a member of the orchestra's Woodwind Quintet and the MacArthur Wind Symphony. She's also MacArthur's Class of 2008 valedictorian. She plans to major in music at school or perform professionally with the Marine Corps band stationed in Miramar, Calif.
Miller is featured on Carl Friedrich Zelter's Concerto in E-flat for Viola.
Miller has been playing viola for nine years. She has been a member of the Decatur Youth Symphony for the past three years as principal violist and is also part of the group's string quartet.
Miller and her sisters make up the Eden String Quartet and have produced two CDs and a DVD. She is homeschooled and plans to attend the University of Illinois as a viola performance major.
Other pieces on the program are Camille Saint-Saens' Marche Militaire Francaise from the "Algerian Suite," Nicholas Rimsky-Korsakov's "Russian Easter Overture," "Bacchanale" from "Samson and Delilah" by Saint-Saens, Introduction and Rondo by Elliot Del Borgo and "Suite from Video Games Live," featuring music from Halo, Civilization IV, Bounty Hunter and Kingdom Hearts.
Gary Shaw is the group's conductor. Admission is free.
