MOWEAQUA - Nikki Krug's Nikkidoodle jewelry sparkles.
"That's because it's high-quality, made with expensive Swarovski lead crystals," she said. "I specialize in high-quality jewelry, including clasps."
The crystal beads, from the famed Swiss company, have a metallic chemical coating that reflects light.
A selection of Krug's work is on sale at Giggles in Decatur.
Krug began making jewelry in 2002, when she was teaching in Tampa, Fla.
"I needed a bracelet to go with a dress for Valentine's Day," she said. "A friend helped me create a bracelet, and I've been creating jewelry ever since."
Now a first-grade teacher in the Central A&M School District, she also makes natural stone jewelry - beads, necklaces and bracelets. She is a Central A&M High School graduate and a 1999 Millikin University graduate.
She obtains materials on the Internet. In addition to jewelry, she makes personalized pottery such as wedding plates and baby plates, using a kiln in Mount Zion.
"It's all one-of-a-kind," she said.
Krug has many containers of beads in all colors.
"Some of my creations are done in 10 minutes, and some can take several days to complete," she said.
The price range: Bracelets $25 to $40; necklaces $25 to $60; earrings, about $15; dinner plates $50; salad plates $40.
Chrissy Spurlock at Giggles said the jewelry especially appeals to the age 20-to-40 buyer.
"It's brand new in the store," Spurlock said, "kind of funky and very colorful. The jewelry goes with our store colors; it stands out."
