This weekend is the perfect time to gather the family, work off some of those Thanksgiving leftovers and pick out the perfect Christmas tree.

Here's a guide to Christmas tree farms in Central Illinois for which the Herald & Review was able to verify current information. Please call to confirm operating hours the day you choose to go.

MACON COUNTY

* Four Es Trees Inc., Mount Zion, 864-4704; Traughber Road, 1 mile west of Mount Zion off County Highway 30 (Elwin blacktop), look for signs; open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27 through Dec. 24; trees to 12 feet; Scotch, white pine, balsam and Fraser fir; Norway spruce $16.25 to $100 (a 6 to 6½-foot tree costs up to $32.25, balsam $37.75); tree tops $4 a foot; farm or customer cuts; call for dug tree prices and availability; tree decorations, wreaths, roping, grave pieces, bundles, centerpieces; will ship trees and wreaths.

* Greentree Christmas Tree Farm, Decatur, 423-1558, Illinois 121 to Bearsdale, south 1½ miles on Bearsdale Road; noon to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, noon to 4:30 p.m. Sunday through Dec. 21; trees 3 to 14 feet; Scotch, white pine; $3.50 a foot field cut; balsam and Douglas firs, farm cuts; live trees available, balled and burlapped; wreaths, roping, grave blankets, greenery.

* Maddox Tree Farm, Warrensburg, 672-3715, 5012 N. Lincoln Memorial Parkway, 1 mile west of Harristown-Kenney blacktop (County Highway 21) on County Highway 52; open 3 p.m. to dusk weekdays, 9 a.m. to dusk Saturdays and Sundays; white pine, Norway and blue spruce up to 10 feet, farm cuts; baling, shaking available; wreaths, swags, live potted white pine and other varieties.

BOND COUNTY

* Daniken Tree Farm, Greenville, (618) 664-4067, 5 miles west of Greenville on Illinois 140, look for sign; open through Dec. 23, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily; trees to 3 to 12 feet; Scotch and white pine, Fraser fir; $4.40 a foot; live dug white pine, Douglas fir; blue and Norway spruce available; farm or customer cuts; all trees shaken and baled; wreaths, roping, greenery, tree stands, hot food stand, gift shop, wagon rides and Santa Claus on weekends. COLES COUNTY

* Hager Tree Farm, Choose and cut Scotch and white pine trees; tinted, shaken, bailed and drilled. Precut Fraser and balsam fir trees, wreaths, greenery, roping, grave pillows, blankets and crosses, hot wassail and cookies. Pin-type tree stands, tree bags and dug trees. Hours: Monday through Thursday by appointment, Fridays through Sundays, 9 a.m. to dusk. * Norman's Tree Farm, Scotch and white pine, three needle lengths; cut, shaped and shaken; up to 9 feet tall; $25 each; open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily; wreaths, greenery $2 a bundle; Cozy Lane, Charleston, take Lincoln Highway Road, 1¼ miles south of the Bible Center Church, Charleston. * Tucker's Tree Farm, Fraser fir, Canaan fir, white pine and Scotch pine; live, dug and baled trees; trees shaken and netted; drill system tree stands. Gift shop with wreaths, roping, grave blankets and pillows. Free popcorn and hot chocolate. From Mattoon, go to Coles Station on Illinois 121, turn north at County Road 000E and follow the signs. * Mandana Pines Christmas Trees, white and Scotch pines, balsam and Fraser firs; up to 14 feet; drilled, shaken and baled; precut or in the field; wreaths, roping, tree stands, greenery bundles, tree disposal bags, grave blankets. Free refreshments. Go 4½ miles east of Charleston on Illinois 16. Open from 1 to 6:30 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturdays, noon to 6 p.m. Sundays; ninth year in business. 345-5588.

* Sugar Mountain Farms, Scotch pines and Fraser furs. Grave pillows and blankets, fresh-made wreaths, roping, swags and centerpieces. Old-fashioned tree lot with nightly light display. Free shake, bale and drill services. Fruit baskets filled with citrus, apples, grapes, Amish jams and butters, and nuts are available, as well as fresh mushrooms and produce. Locally made gifts and crafts from the gift shop. Letters to Santa can be dropped off any time. Santa will visit Dec. 12-13, 19-20. Free hot cider and popcorn and a fire pit to roast marshmallows. CLARK COUNTY

DOUGLAS COUNTY

EFFINGHAM COUNTY

MOULTRIE COUNTY
