For 70 years, the Decatur Camera Club has been promoting photography.
The 71st year begins with a 7 p.m. meeting Thursday in the lower level of First United Methodist Church.
"It's welcome-back time with a "view the summer" theme and field-trip images.
The club was formed in 1937 with 26 members. The logo featuring the Decatur Transfer House is still in use.
"Our meetings allow members to discuss photography," said David Staff, the president. "Much can be learned by an exchange of ideas by those who love photography."
Don Chamberlain, the past president, said the club goals are educational programs, fellowship and critiquing/competition. It has more than 20 members.
In 1950, the Decatur Camera Club joined the Central Illinois Camera Club Association, providing an extra opportunity for members to compare their work with other photographers.
The club will give a free program, "Celebrating Photography," from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 4 in the Decatur Public Library's Madden Auditorium. Members will present 30-minute programs on photography basics, Photoshop elements, nature photography and software photography. Door prizes will be awarded.
Meetings are held on the second and fourth Thursday of each month from September through May. The Sept.25 meeting has a "show and tell" theme. The first competition night is Oct. 23.
