DECATUR - Charity A. Light, 29, pleaded guilty Wednesday in Macon County Circuit Court to possession of 15.4 grams of pseudoephedrine, a major ingredient in the making of methamphetamine, and was sentenced to five years in prison.
Light, also known as Charity Rivera, was the last of four people arrested by Decatur police March 6 when officers served a narcotics search warrant at 2449 E. North St. A meth laboratory was found in the basement. Seized during the raid were 1,157.1 grams of liquid meth.
Rory T. Arthur, 21, pleaded guilty June 12 to a Class X felony involving possession of the large quantity of meth and was sentenced to 12 years in prison. David C. Habitch, 26, pleaded guilty to the Class 1 felony of participation in unlawful meth manufacturing and was sentenced to nine years in prison.
Reanna Davis, also known as Reanna Hollensbe, 33, pleaded guilty July 12 to the Class X felony of aggravated possession of anhydrous ammonia with intent to manufacture meth. She was sentenced to six years in prison.
In sentencing Light, Associate Judge Lisa Holder White said Light would have to pay a $1,540 street value fine, a mandatory $2,000 drug assessment fee, a $100 laboratory fee and a $200 fee to have her DNA indexed by the Illinois State Police. The judge gave Light a $775 credit against the mandatory assessment for the 155 days she has served in the county jail.
Assistant State's Attorney Brian Shaw said if the case had gone to trial, the evidence would have shown that police found Light in the North Street residence along with her 2-year-old son when they served the search warrant. He said Davis acknowledged that Light had resided there off and on for several months.
Police reports of the raid indicated officers had to wear breathing apparatus to enter the house because the smell of chemicals from the meth making was so strong. Davis' three children, ages 3, 6 and 9, also were living in the house.
The four children were placed in the custody of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services before eventually being placed with relatives.
