CLINTON - The Department of Natural Resources believes it has found a missing 8-year-old boy in Clinton Lake, but has not yet recovered his body.

Communications Director Chris McCloud told the Herald & Review that Kalin Hunter has been found at the base of the spillway, but "we still face some challenges with recovery."

McCloud is on his way to Clinton and plans a media briefing later Tuesday afternoon. Earlier today, the family's pastor also confirmed Kalin had been found, but Sheriff Roger Massey said he had not.

Kalin, a third-grader at Metcalf School in Normal, was boating with his grandfather and uncle, Richard Hunter and Jason Hunter, last Wednesday when their boat ran out of gas and had mechanical difficulties during a storm.

A large portion of the boat was found Wednesday night at the spillway and the men's bodies were recovered Thursday morning.

Water and debris from Clinton Lake goes over the spillway into Salt Creek. The spillway depth is about 15 feet and much of that is filled with fishing line, tree limbs and other debris.

Workers have been dredging that area and another quarter-mile stretch since Thursday searching for Kalin's body.
