DECATUR - Class X felony drug charges have been filed in Macon County Circuit Court against Tyler L. Davis, 24, and Holly Gray, 22, for allegedly possessing cocaine, marijuana and Ecstasy with intent to deliver.

The cocaine and Ecstasy charges carry enhanced prison terms of nine to 40 years upon conviction.

Davis and Gray appeared Friday before Associate Judge James Coryell who appointed a public defender to represent them. He set a preliminary hearing for Nov. 26 at which he will determine if there is sufficient cause to believe the pair was involved in the alleged crimes. If so, the case will be set for trial.

The couple was returned to jail where Davis is held under $150,000 bond and Gray is held under $100,000 bond.

In a sworn statement filed in circuit court, Decatur police detective Chad Ramey said both suspects were arrested Nov. 7 following an investigation by the police department and the Illinois State Police into narcotics sales in the community.

The state police used an informant to order a quantity of cocaine from Davis, who agreed to meet the informant in a parking lot at 22nd and Wood streets, Ramey said. Officers watched Davis leave his residence in the 1200 block of East Johns Avenue and detained him when he reached the prearranged meeting place, Ramey said.

When Davis was searched, officers found five individual bags of cocaine that together weighed about 17 grams, Ramey said.

Gray had been at the Johns Avenue residence but left for work prior to officers serving a search warrant at the residence, Ramey said. Lying on the kitchen counter were two bricks of marijuana weighing about 1,868 grams and having a street sale value of about $18,000, he said. Two digital scales were found inside the cabinet, he said.

The cabinet also held about 112 grams of cocaine with a street sale value of about $11,000, Ramey said. Detectives also found about 40 Ecstasy pills, he said.

Hidden in a garbage can under the garbage bag, officers found 342 Ecstasy pills, Ramey said. Total street value for all the Ecstasy was about $7,600, he said.

A loaded .380-caliber handgun was found behind the refrigerator in the kitchen, Ramey said. When interviewed, Davis admitted the drugs and other items were his, he said.

Gray returned home while the search was in progress, Ramey said. The house is rented in her name and she admitted knowing about the marijuana in the kitchen, he said.
