Standing still seems like an odd business model, but it's worked out well for Roadrunner Lawn Ornaments.

The store and factory, on Illinois 16 east of Pana, specializes in statuary and lawn ornaments and is celebrating its 25th anniversary on Saturday.

Refreshments will be served from about 1 p.m. on and there will be drawings for prizes. "We hope customers will come out and help us celebrate," said Luella Hubbartt, who founded the company in 1983 with her husband, Morris.

Roadrunner has grown considerably over the years. It began as a business buying ornaments and statuary from other companies, which Luella Hubbartt would paint and decorate for resale. Now the business creates its own products and, aside from Roadrunner's retail sales, distributes wholesale to stores in 13 other states.

Roadrunner's expansion now includes three generations of the Hubbartt family, as children George, Kathy and Morris Jr. all work for the enterprise, along with several grandchildren.

"Why have we been around so long? I think you've got to like what you're doing," said Luella Hubbartt. "And be good at it."

Roadrunner is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Call 562-3505.

A business that has been in the Village Mall in downtown Decatur has opened a second location and is looking to expand its original location when it moves.

The Villa, a boutique with skin and nail care services, has until September to move out of the Village Mall, where it has been for four years.

"We're trying to stay downtown, but I'm not sure that's going to be possible," owner Tiffany Boyer said.

In the meantime, The Villa II has opened at Hickory Point Mall. The second location offers makeup, accessories and a line of candles whose proceeds will be donated to autism research.

It is near Von Maur in the former Fannie Mae space.

"We thought it would be good exposure to let people know we're still here and around," Boyer said. "If it works out, we'll keep it as a second location."

The Villa is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. It is open other times by appointment.

The Villa II is open the same hours as the mall.

Call 428-8452 for the downtown location or 791-5554 for the mall.

The Villa II isn't the only new addition to Hickory Point Mall. Nationally known retailer Kay Jewelers opens a store at the mall today.

Kay Jewelers will be open in the space that had been occupied by Gordon's Jewelers, which closed at the beginning of the year.

A toy store on the square in Sullivan is preparing to close.

Kadoozies co-owner Jody Henderson wants more time to spend with her family.

"I've always had another full-time job," said Henderson, who opened the store along with her husband, Randy, four and a half years ago. "I just want to slow down a little bit. I love it. It's my hobby, but I think family time is more important."

The Hendersons plan to sell all the inventory, which could take through the summer, before closing, Jody Henderson said.

Selling the business is a possibility, she said, and they plan to help the new buyer get started.

Kadoozies is open 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and until 8 p.m. when a show is playing at the Little Theatre-On the Square. It is closed Sunday and Monday.

Call 728-7220.
