Quilters looking for the latest fabrics and patterns may want to check out Main Street Quilt Co., which opened last month at 200 E. Main St. in Shelbyville.

Wisconsin natives Kate and Walter Laskowski moved to Shelbyville two years ago so he could take a job with International Paper, and now she's branching out from the long arm machine quilting she has been doing out of her home.

"I still finish quilts here in the shop, but we also have lots of 100 percent cotton, notions and a wide variety of books and patterns," Kate Laskowski said. "It's hard to believe, but we're already running out of room."

The Laskowskis hope to complete renovation of the space just east of their current location by late fall and begin offering classes and carrying knitting and crocheting supplies. They also plan to publish a quarterly newsletter.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. For more, e-mail kate@mainstreetquilt company.com or call 774-3484.

Sharp's Tae Kwon Do now is concentrating its kicks, punches and blocks in the martial art school's Hickory Point Mall headquarters, having closed a satellite school in Mount Zion.

Owner Josh Sharp said rising costs and logistical hassles for him and other instructors made consolidation necessary. The Mount Zion address had been open for a year.

"And if I had to combine and condense into one, it was for the best to condense into the Hickory Point location," Sharp said. "It's a newer, better facility, and we have a bigger client base there."

He said interest in learning the martial arts remains high, with some 200 students on the rolls, aged from 3 to 63. Sharp's Tae Kwon Do was founded 14 years ago. Call 620-7552.

The Headliners bar at 2553 North 22nd Street in Decatur is up for sale and getting some notice.

Owner Barry Sammons, who closed the business Jan. 31 after a two-year run at that location, said he's had several inquiries. "Most of it has been retail, like using it as a store," he added. "But no contracts yet."

The building and land are for sale and the bar business, too, if someone wants to take it over. Sammons said he didn't want to get into why the business had closed, just saying he had faced some changed circumstances that prompted him to sell. Call 433-2712.
