SULLIVAN-BASED Marvin Keller Trucking Inc. is building a new headquarters for itself just outside the city off Illinois 32.
The 7,000-square-foot building will replace the 1,500-square-foot headquarters in town where the 25 administrative and non-driving staff found life rather confining.
"Now we won't be sitting on each other's laps," said business owner Joe Keller. "This will be nice."
The trucking company has a fleet of 105 vehicles operating nationwide and a total staff of 130. It's maintained a growth rate of 25 percent to 30 percent a year despite soaring fuel costs and generally tough conditions in the trucking industry that have run many rival firms off the road.
Keller Trucking isn't the only Sullivan enterprise on the move. The new Moultrie County Jail is being built nearby on a five acre parcel sold by Keller, and down the road is a six acre development for 48 apartments. There is still 30 acres of commercial land available.
