Rod Blagojevich accompanied by supporters that have benefited from his health care initiatives makes a statement Friday in Chicago, after he was impeached by the Illinois House on a wide array of offenses including criminal corruption and wasting taxpayers money.

Reaction across Illinois on Friday as the House impeached Gov. Rod Blagojevich:

"Here we are on Richard Nixon's birthday, and the truth is, the governor sounds in many ways like Richard Nixon. … Nixon said, `When the president does it, it's not illegal.' That's Rod Blagojevich." - Rep. Lou Lang, a Democrat, to the House.

"This is all about greed. When a man lets greed take over, it can't do anything but bring a negative response." - Ken Cooper, 69, a retired letter carrier from East St. Louis, referring to federal charges that Blagojevich tried to sell President-elect Barack Obama's U.S. senate seat.

"I think he's just a fighter by nature, so I think he'll stay." - Rep. Tom Cross, House minority leader, on whether he thinks Blagojevich will resign before the Senate considers his impeachment.

"But why put the state through this whole circus for the next few weeks? (Blagojevich) should do the honorable thing and resign." - Juan Rangel, 43, chief executive of the United Neighborhood Organization, a Latino group that protested outside Chicago's Thompson Center, calling for Blagojevich's ouster.

"I respect the governor's desire to do good for the people of Illinois, but we live in a society of laws, a system of governance, and everybody has to abide by that. … Otherwise, we have complete chaos and anarchy." - State Sen. Christine Radogno, a Republican, at a post-vote news conference in Chicago in which the governor spoke primarily about his accomplishments.

"If the governor walked down that aisle today, how many of us would fall over ourselves to greet him? I think we'd hold our heads down in shame. We wanted him, we elected him, we supported him and he's disgraced us." - Rep. Monique Davis, a Democrat, to the House before the vote.

"Wherefore, this abuse of power by Rod R. Blagojevich warrants his impeachment and trial, removal from office as Governor, and disqualification to hold any public office of this State in the future." - Ending of the House resolution adopted by the chamber Friday that lists Blagojevich's 13 impeachable offenses.
